# Coffee in North Melbourne

North Melbourne's roasters sit in its backstreets between the Queen Victoria Market and Arden Street. Small Batch roasts behind garage doors on Little Howard Street, Rosso runs a roastery café with free tastings on Dryburgh Street, and Tone, Otherside and Roasting Warehouse are a short walk apart.

## The shops

1. [Small Batch Roasting Co.](https://goodcoffeein.com/melbourne/small-batch-roasting-co.md) (North Melbourne · Must-try). Small Batch roasts behind a set of garage doors on a North Melbourne side street. It was started by Andrew Kelly, who first opened Auction Rooms, and the team judges every coffee on three things: it must taste great, have a positive social impact and support sustainable agriculture. The warehouse café bakes its own pastries and sells local produce next to the beans. Its coffee also turns up across the city, for example as the Candyman house blend at Little Rogue.
2. [Tone coffee](https://goodcoffeein.com/melbourne/tone-coffee.md) (Prahran · Must-try). Tone is the café of Caleb 'Tiger' Cha, who won the 2015 World Latte Art Championship in Gothenburg a year after his first competition. Milk work is the point here: order a flat white or a latte and watch the pour. The café is on High Street in Prahran, and Tone Coffee Roasters on Queensberry Street in North Melbourne opens every day. Cha has been in coffee since 2008.
3. [Rosso Coffee Experience](https://goodcoffeein.com/melbourne/rosso-coffee-experience.md) (North Melbourne · Good). Rosso roasts its coffee on site in North Melbourne and built this café as a place to taste, sit and learn. House blends and single origins come from beans sourced around the world, the kitchen is run by chefs, and free hands-on tasting sessions are part of the programme. Rosso also runs an espresso bar on Collins Street in the CBD for a quicker cup.
4. [Otherside Coffee](https://goodcoffeein.com/melbourne/otherside-coffee.md) (CBD · Good). Otherside roasts its own coffee, led by the Little Temperance blend, a bold, complex espresso with bright acidity. The Little Collins Street café in the CBD opens every day from early morning, and the team publishes brew guides for AeroPress, V60 and Moccamaster if you take beans home. A second Otherside café is in North Melbourne.
5. [Roasting Warehouse](https://goodcoffeein.com/melbourne/roasting-warehouse-north-melbourne.md) (North Melbourne · Good). Roasting Warehouse is a Melbourne specialty roaster that supplies businesses and sells freshly roasted coffee to drink at home. Its North Melbourne café on Leveson Street pours the house blends and single origins, and the team shares guides for AeroPress and filter brewing. Bags, pods and brewing equipment are on sale if you want to take the coffee with you.
